In 1958, Arne Jacobsen designed the Swan chair for the lobby and lounge areas of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. It soon was a coveted piece by interior designers and consumers worldwide.

La cuna –cuya forma delinea las curvas del cuerpo humano– parece fluctuar sobre la base, y puede discurrir sobre ella sin ningún tipo de mecanismo, con deslizamiento continuo, permitiendo así todos los ángulos de inclinación y manteniendo la estabilidad gracias al roce del acero con la goma que recubre las traviesas de la base. Lo más destacable en este diseño es que la posición de reposo se puede ajustar simplemente gracias a la gravedad, que la devuelve a su posición inicial.

El propio Le Corbusier la definió como una

 y contó que para su diseño había
